West Ham hold talks for former Manchester United striker

West Ham have extended their search for a new striker to Germany after holding preliminary talks with Bayer Leverkusen for former Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez, reports Sky Sports.

Slaven Bilic’s side are desperate to sign a new striker this summer and have already been heavily linked with a move for Olivier Giroud amid Alexandre Lacazette’s imminent arrival at Arsenal.

However, Everton have now entered the race for the Arsenal frontman and the Hammers are now also interested in making a move for Hernandez, who is reportedly free to leave the Bundesliga outfit this summer.

Hernandez, who has only just completed Confederations Cup duty with Mexico, has spent the last two years at Leverkusen and Jose Mourinho has already been extremely vocal in his shock at the fact United let him leave the club.

Last season wasn’t particularly impressive for Hernandez’s standards and he even went four months without scoring in any competition for Leverkusen. However, he still finished with 11 league goals to his name, his second best return in a single-campaign since 2010/11.
