Leicester target suffers serious knee injury

Juventus have confirmed Merih Demiral has suffered a serious knee injury and now faces an extensive period on the sidelines.

Demiral sustained the injury midway through the first half of Juventus' 2-1 win at Roma and was replaced by Matthijs de Ligt.

The Turkey international has been a revelation for Juventus in recent weeks and had even leapfrogged De Ligt in the pecking order.

However, the 21-year-old is now expected to miss the remainder of the season and Euro 2020 in a huge blow to Turkey.

The news also spells the end of Leicester's interest in the centre-back, having seen a bid knocked back earlier in the month.

Borussia Dortmund also failed with an offer of £34m for Demiral and both clubs will now be forced to look elsewhere for defensive reinforcements.

Demiral has scored one goal and one assist in five league appearances this season and is currently Juventus' fourth highest (5+ appearances) WhoScored rated player in the league (7.23).

Moreover, he has impressively failed to win just five of the 25 aerial duels he has contested in Serie A this term.
