Manchester United target agrees new deal, says president

 

Manchester United and Chelsea have been served a blow in their pursuit of Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan after the club’s president revealed a new contract extension has been agreed.

 

Nainggolan turned down the chance to join Chelsea 12 months ago but has been subject to more interest from the Premier League this summer after growing impatient by Roma’s inability to hand him an improved deal.

 

Jose Mourinho is determined to sign a new central midfielder this summer and had been linked with a £40m move for Nainggolan, but will now have to focus on alternative targets after Roma’s president, James Pallotta, told reporters at Rome airport that a new contract has been agreed.

 

“Yes, it’s done,” Pallotta is quoted as saying by Football Italia when asked whether Nainggolan had agreed terms to a new deal.

 

 

The Belgium international has reportedly agreed terms to a new four-year deal that will run until June 2021.

 

Nainggolan finished last season with as many league goals (11) as his first two campaigns with Roma combined. Not only that, but the box-to-box midfielder has made more key passes from open play (41) than any other player in Serie A this year.
