Liverpool pursue World Cup winning goalkeeper

Liverpool have made an approach to sign former Real Madrid and FC Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas, reports Spanish publication AS.

The 36-year-old is contracted to the Portuguese side until 2018, but has supposedly agreed a pre-contract with the Merseyside giants.

The Reds looked to correct their goalkeeping issues with the capture of Loris Karius last summer, though injury and a series of indifferent displays saw Simon Mignolet end the campaign as their number one.

Casillas has a number of offers from the Premier League, Turkey and China, but Liverpool could be the most appealing destination for the World Cup winning goalkeeper.

The experienced shotstopper made 33 league starts for Porto this season and conceded just 16 league goals over the campaign and gained a notable save success rate of 78.1%.

His signing would be a cost effective one for Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool and improve an area that requires strengthening over the summer, with the Reds conceding a disappointing 42 league goals this season.
