City target pens new deal

Manchester City target David Alaba has signed a new three-year deal with Bayern Munich, the Bundesliga champions have announced.

With Pep Guardiola set to replace Manuel Pellegrini as the City boss at the end of the season, there had been suggestions that the Spaniard would try to take Alaba with him to the Etihad.

Alaba, 23, is widely considered the best left-back in the world but would have entered the final two years of his previous deal at the Allianz Arena after the Euros this summer.

However, the Austria international has now quashed any talk of leaving Bayern this summer after putting pen to paper on a new three-year extension, keeping him at the club until 2021.

Only Xabi Alonso (1816) has completed more passes in the Bundesliga this season than Alaba (1726).
