England star faces race to be fit for Euros, claims Hodgson

England manager Roy Hodgson has fuelled further concern regarding the fitness of Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck after revealing the striker could be out for six months.

Welbeck, 24, underwent knee surgery last week to solve a problem that has plagued him since April.

Arsenal had reported the former Manchester United striker would only face a spell of three months on the sidelines, however it could actually be double that time, putting his position in Hodgson’s squad for Euro 2016 in question.

“Welbeck bothers me now. He has already been out for me since March and for Arsenal since April, so that’s over four months,” the England manager is quoted as saying by The Daily Mirror.

“And now I hear it’s another six months, so I can only hope that Danny recovers a bit quicker and then hits the ground running.”

Welbeck’s form for England has been much better for England than it has been for United and now Arsenal. In fact, only Wayne Rooney has scored as many goals as Welbeck (both 6) during England’s Euro 2016 qualification phase, despite having played two less matches than the England captain.
