Man Utd defender set for another spell on the sidelines

Manchester United will have to make do without Lisandro Martinez for two months, according to Standard Sport.

Martinez was forced off in the second half of United's 3-0 win over West Ham on Sunday after appearing to jar his knee when challenging Hammers right-back Vladimir Coufal for the ball.

The Argentina international initially carried on but was then withdrawn from play with Raphael Varane replacing Martinez.

After the game, United boss Erik ten Hag confirmed the injury looked "bad" and the centre-back is now said to have sprained a collateral ligament in his knee.

Fortunately for both player and club, Martinez won't require surgery but he's unlikely to play for United again before the March international break.

The 26-year-old has made just seven league starts for United this season owing to injury and put in his best rated performance of the Premier League campaign against the Hammers prior to his 71st-minute substitution.

Victory over West Ham saw United move to within eight points of the top four.
