Southampton have announced the arrival of Augsburg centre-back Kevin Danso on a season-long loan with an exclusive option to buy.
Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side submitted a deal sheet in time before the transfer window for English clubs shut at 5pm to give themselves an extra two hours to get a deal over the line.
The 20-year-old has put pen to paper with Southampton and completes the club’s summer spending spree.
Southampton only made four signings during the summer transfer window but spent in excess of £50m to ensure they steer clear of another relegation battle.
Danso was a revelation for Augsburg last season and the German side may wish they have used him more frequently.
The Austria international made 18 league appearances in 2018/19 of which only 13 were as starts but he fits the exact profile Hasenhuttl was looking for in a new centre-back.
Of players that made at least 15 Bundesliga appearances last season, only Niklas Stark (1.3) averaged more shots blocked per 90 than Danso (1.2).
