Chelsea defender poised to join Crystal Palace

Chelsea youngster Marc Guehi is on his way to Crystal Palace on a permanent deal, claims The Athletic.

Guehi spent last season on loan with Championship side Swansea and earned rave reviews as Steve Cooper's side narrowly missed out on promotion.

Chelsea weren't sold on  the idea of selling the 21-year-old this summer but Palace have made an offer that is too good to refuse and will boost their own transfer budget.

The England Under-21 international will have his Palace medical on Thursday ahead of signing a five-year deal with the Eagles.

Chelsea have inclued a sell-on clause in the transfer and will also have first right of refusal if Palace ever cash in on the centre-back in the future.

The European champions valued Guehi between £15m and £20m so it is likely Palace have come in with an offer in that region.

Palace have gone about their summer re-build smartly after releasing as many as 22 players at the end of their contracts earlier this month.

New manager Patrick Vieira have already signed highly rated Championship midfielder Michael Olise from Reading and are now poised to land Guehi.

No player aged 21 or under had a better tackle success rate than Guehi in England's top two tiers last season (84.6%).
