West Ham lodge staggering £31.5m bid for sought after frontman

West Ham have made a club-record £31.5m bid for Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi, according to The Guardian.

Batshuayi, 22, is one of the most sought after strikers in Europe and is expected to make a high profile move in the summer following Marseille’s disastrous campaign.

Tottenham and Liverpool are among the sides that have been linked with a move for the Belgium international, who has made Champions League football a priority, but West Ham are currently leading the race as they look to sign a world-class striker ahead of the move to their new stadium.

Slaven Bilic’s side have now firmed up their interest in Batshuayi with a formal offer that would smash the £15.5m they paid Liverpool for Andy Carroll in 2013.

Batshuayi has scored an impressive 16 goals - 11 more than any other Marseille player – this season despite the fact Marseille are in the lower half of the table having won nine league matches all season.
