Liverpool to gatecrash race for Manchester United and Manchester City target
Liverpool are set to make a move for Arsenal forward and Manchester United and Manchester City target Alexis Sanchez, reports the Sunday Mirror.
The Gunners star is rumoured to be on the cusp of an Emirates Stadium exit this month, with both Manchester sides leading the way for his signature.
However, Liverpool could make a move as they look to ease the big money sale of Philippe Coutinho, who recently departed for Barcelona for £142m.
Arsenal are holding out for bids of £35m for Alexis and would rather cash in on the 29-year-old this month than lose him on a free at the end of the season.
Considering the financial windfall from Coutinho’s departure, Liverpool have the means to match the Gunners’ asking price for Alexis, even with the £75m acquisition of Virgil van Dijk.
The Reds, though, are very much behind Manchester United and Manchester City in the pecking order for Alexis, but could look to trump the pair as they aim to assemble a squad capable of challenging for the Premier League title.
