Everton on alert as Burnley baulk at Gray’s wage demands
Everton are among the Premier League clubs monitoring Andre Gray’s future as Burnley baulk at his £70,000-a-week wage demands, reports The Daily Mail.
Gray has entered the final 12 months of his current Burnley deal worth in the region of £25,000-a-week and he is now looking to more than double what he earns now.
Burnley are notoriously stringent with their money and are determined not to get caught up in inflated transfer fees and wages, but that is causing them problems in their attempts to tie down Gray’s long-term future.
Robbie Brady, who joined from Norwich last summer, is currently the club’s best paid player on £35,000-a-week and they would need to shatter their wage structure in order to convince Gray to extend his stay.
The 26-year-old has spent the last two years at Burnley since joining from Brentford in 2015 and the striker is now a target for the likes of Everton, Tottenham and West Ham.
All three are looking to bolster their offensive options this summer and would be interested in striking a cut-price deal for Gray, who will have to leave Burnley this summer if he fails to agree a new deal.
Gray fluttered in and out of the Burnley starting XI last season in his maiden campaign in the Premier League, but only Sam Vokes (10) scored more league goals for the Clarets (Gray – 9).
