German faces uncertain United future

Bastian Schweinsteiger is one of nine players supposedly told he does not have a future at Manchester United by manager Jose Mourinho, reports Sky Sports.

The experienced midfielder announced his retirement from international football on Friday after a 12 year career for the Germany national team.

The 31-year-old could also be on the cusp of a United exit after a solitary season for United with Mourinho keen to move Schweinsteiger on.

Injuries hindered the German’s impact for the Premier League, with Schweinsteiger making just 13 league starts last season.

Nevertheless, his ball retention qualities were rarely called into question with he averaging 79.7 passes per 90 minutes in England’s top tier last term, the second best return of players to make more than 15 appearances.

Yet Schweinsteiger’s career in Manchester looks all but over, with Paddy McNair, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and James Wilson among those allegedly deemed surplus to requirements by Mourinho.
