Bayern Munich announce signing of new striker

Bayern Munich have announced they have re-signed Hoffenheim striker Sandro Wagner on a two-and-a-half-year deal until 2020.

The 30-year-old will officially complete his transfer to the Allianz Arena in January and ends Bayern’s search for a back up striker to Robert Lewandowski

Wagner came through the Bayern youth academy but was forced to leave in 2008 after failing to make the grade under then head coach Ottmar Hitzfeld.

A return to Bayern never seemed likely throughout his career and the Germany international has expressed his delight and securing a move back to his boyhood club.

“I’m delighted,” he told the club’s official website. “A long journey for me is now at an end and I can return to my home, my club. I’m very happy that it’s come off. Bayern are the best club in Germany and one of the best in the world.

“When I go the offer, I didn’t have to think about it for long.”

Bayern have been keen to ease the goalscoring burden on Lewandowski as they look to compete on three fronts this season.

Wagner has not endured his best campaign up until this point, netting just four goals in 11 league appearances.
