Neymar calls Messi over Paris Saint-Germain move

Neymar has personally spoken to close friend Lionel Messi about a potential move to Paris Saint-Germain this summer, claims ESPN.

Messi is determined to leave Barcelona this summer after signalling his shock intentions through the media in the wake of the club's humilating 8-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Barcelona are desperately trying to convince Messi to reverse his decision but the Argentina international's mind is certain and now he is trying to get out of his contract to leave on a free transfer.

Manchester City are in pole position to sign Messi should the 33-year-old leave Barcelona and Pep Guardiola has reportedly also spoken to his entourage about a potential transfer.

Bayern Munich have already ruled themselves out of the running for Messi's signature, while the Argentine does not expect an offer from Manchester United, though PSG and Inter are monitoring his future.

It has now been revealed former Barcelona winger Neymar has personally discussed a potential move to PSG with his old team-mate and close friend.

Messi wanted Barcelona to re-sign Neymar in recent years but now there is a chance he could just leave the Spanish club and join the 28-year-old in Paris.

Last season's Champions League finalists believe they can work their finances to accommodate Messi's arrival after seeing the likes of Thomas Meunier, Thiago Silva and Edinson Cavani depart the club this summer.

The aforementioned trio were all on lucrative contracts and their departures have at least freed up significant space on their wage bill.

Messi has been the WhoScored Player of the Season in Europe's top five leagues in nine of the last 11 campaigns.
