Dortmund defender pens new long-term deal

Borussia Dortmund have announced Sokratis has signed a new deal with the club extending his stay until June 2019.

Sokratis, 27, joined from Werder Bremen in 2013 and has since established himself as a first-team regular at the heart of the Dortmund defence.

The Greece international has previously been linked with moves to Arsenal and Dortmund are pleased to tie him down for his best years.

“We are very pleased that we have managed, in Sokratis, to gain the long-term commitment of another of our top perfomers,” BVB's sporting director Michael Zorc told Dortmund's official website.

Greek centre-back Sokratis added: "The city of Dortmund, BVB and the people here have become a second home for me and my family.

"I am very happy that I will still be able to wear the black and yellow shirt for a long time yet."
