Walcott set for Everton medical

Everton are on the verge of signing Arsenal forward Theo Walcott in a deal worth more than £20m, reports BBC Sport.

Walcott is due to undergo his Everton medical in the next 24 hours as his 12-year Arsenal career nears a conclusion.

Former side Southampton were also in the race to sign the 28-year-old but Everton believe they have trumped their offer and are confident of securing his services.

Arsenal are expected to use the money from Walcott’s departure to sign Borussia Dortmund wantaway striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Walcott will hope to use this January move as a springboard to get into Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the 2018 World Cup.

The Arsenal forward has not played for England since November 2016 and will need to finish the second half of this season in sensational fashion to have any realistic chance of making the plane to Russia.

Walcott has only made six substitute appearances in the Premier League this season, managing 64 minutes of football in that time.
