Inter ponder short-term move for Manchester United attacker

Inter Milan are keen on signing Manchester United attacker Henrikh Mkhitaryan on loan, with the Armenian out of favour under Jose Mourinho, reports the Mail on Sunday.

Mkhitaryan has dropped out of Mourinho’s good books in recent weeks and hasn’t started a competitive match since the 1-0 loss to Chelsea at the beginning of November.

The former Borussia Dortmund star began the season strongly, registering five assists and scoring one goal in his opening five Premier League appearances.

Mourinho hinted that the 28-year-old could leave United next month after admitting that ‘every player has his price’ and it’s heightened speculation that Mkhitaryan could be on his way out of Old Trafford at the turn of the year.

Inter may look to secure Mkhitaryan on loan next month, though it could well be that United demand a clause that would see the Serie A side secure his services permanently next year.

United will want to recoup most, if not all, of the £27m they spent to sign Mkhitaryan in 2016 and that may present a problem in any potential deal.

Mourinho’s side have been offered Mesut Ozil and Willian, of Arsenal and Chelsea respectively, as a replacement for Mkhitaryan, who could be on his way out of the club in the January transfer window.
