Atletico Madrid are willing to hand Mesut Ozil a route back to Spain when his current Arsenal deal expires at the end of the season, reports The Sun.
Arsenal have failed to convince Ozil to sign a new deal and the Germany international is set to leave the Gunners for nothing in the summer.
Jose Mourinho is reportedly keen on reuniting with Ozil for next season, but the Manchester United manager now faces stiff competition from Atletico.
Ozil spent three years at Real Madrid before moving to England in 2013 and it remains to be seen whether he would risk upsetting his former club in order to join their city rivals.
Nevertheless, Diego Simeone’s side have sounded out a move for the 29-year-old and are willing to pay as much as £200,000-a-week in order to prise the Arsenal No.11 away from north London.
In the last five Premier League campaigns, Ozil has registered at least three more assists than any other player (44). Prior to joining Arsenal, the German also provided the most assists during his three-year stint in La Liga (47).
