Barcelona economic vice-president Susana Monje insists the club have the financial flexibility to absorb a new lucrative contract for Neymar.
Neymar, 23, has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United in recent months but has recently cooled talks of his exit from Barcelona by insisting he will sign a new deal with the La Liga champions.
However, there had been suggestions Barcelona would struggle to afford giving the Brazil international improved terms with restrictions imposed from Financial Fair Play, but Monje insists that isn’t the case.
“There is sufficient margin and we are not even close to the limit at this stage,” Monje told Goal.com.
“So Barcelona can take on renewals and new corporations [signings] if the coaching staff consider these to be necessary.”
Neymar has really stepped up to the plate in Lionel Messi’s absence. The Brazilian forward has played a direct hand in eight goals from the four matches Messi has missed through injury having only directly contributed to three goals in Barcelona’s first five matches of the season.
