Barcelona are still pursuing Sevilla striker Kevin Gameiro but will not pay his €40m (£30.6m) release clause, reports Marca.
Luis Enrique is determined to sign a fourth forward this summer after watching his team stutter towards the end of the season and has earmarked Gameiro among his chief targets.
The 29-year-old was in phenomenal form for Sevilla last season as they wrapped up their third straight Europa League title and he is reportedly prepared to join Barcelona this summer if they lodge an official offer.
However, Sevilla are not in the position where they need to sell and Barcelona would need to make significant inroads into negotiations to convince Jorge Sampaoli’s side to accept lower than the striker’s release clause.
Gameiro scored 29 goals in 52 appearances across all competitions last season but saved his best form for the Europa League, where he scored eight times in night appearances, finishing behind Aduriz (10) and Cedric Bakambu (9) in the race to finish as the top goalscorer in the competition.
