Manchester United made deadline day approach for former Liverpool striker

Manchester United made a shock deadline day move to sign Danny Ings from Southampton, claims The Daily Telegraph.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer desperately wants United to get a striker through the door before Friday's 23:00 deadline after missing out on Erling Haaland earlier this month.

United have been heavily linked with a variety of strikers across the world in the last 24 hours from ex-West Ham striker Odion Ighalo to Bournemouth's Joshua King.

It has now emerged United even enquired about in-form Southampton striker Ings only to be told he will not leave under any circumstances.

Ings is currently in the form of his career and has played an integral part in leading Southampton clear of the bottom three.

The former Liverpool striker is remarkably now on course to make Gareth Southgate's England squad for Euro 2020.

Only Jamie Vardy (17) and Sergio Aguero (16) have scored more Premier League goals than Ings (14) this season. Furthermore, the 27-year-old has scored in all but two of his last 11 league starts.
