West Ham have announced Angelo Ogbonna has put pen to paper on a new five-year deal until June 2022.
Ogbonna had two years remaining on the original four-year deal he signed when he joined from Juventus in the summer of 2015 and the Hammers have moved to secure his long-term future.
The 29-year-old missed nearly five months of last season with a knee injury to return for their final game of the season against Burnley and the Italy international is delighted to be rewarded with a new long-term deal.
“I’m really grateful for this new deal,” he told the club’s official website. “Our position last year was quite high and we are looking forward to improving next season.
“My target is that I can’t wait to get back playing. I think we have a long season ahead and for me my target is to be better than last season. We finished in 11th position but very close to 8th position and we know we can do better than we did last year.
“I am excited to show my quality on the pitch and the support is always amazing, even when I had my injury. We have got lots of experience in the team at the moment.”
Ogbonna will be competing for places in defence alongside Winston Reid, James Collins and Jose Fonte, who joined in January from Southampton as a response to Ogbonna's knee injury.
In the last two Premier League campaigns only two West Ham players have made more clearances than Ogbonna (257).
