Paris Saint-Germain join race for Chelsea striker

Paris Saint-Germain are interested in signing Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi this month on loan for the remainder of the season, reports London Evening Standard.

Batshuayi, 23, joined Chelsea from Marseille in the summer in a deal worth £33.1m but has struggled to break into the team following Diego Costa’s return to form.

The Belgium international has already been linked with a loan move to Swansea and West Ham this month, although Chelsea have been adamant they have no interest in parting ways with their back-up striker.

An injury or suspension to Costa, even though Antonio Conte did not star Batshuayi when Costa was unavailable on Boxing Day, would leave the current Premier League leaders short in attack, which would offer some reasoning behind their desire to keep the former Marseille striker at the club.

Having already lost Oscar and John Obi Mikel, Conte will be keen to ensure no other players leave the club this month unless there is sufficient reinforcement in the transfer window, which they are trying to do.

Nevertheless, PSG director of football Patrick Kluivert has already let Chelsea know of their side’s interest in Batshuayi as the seek to find an alternative option to Edinson Cavani.

A return to France would perhaps sit well with Batshuayi, but he would simply be trading benches from Chelsea to PSG with Cavani their undisputed No.1 striker.

Despite limited game time this season Batshuayi has still managed to play a direct hand in five goals in has played a direct hand in five goals 15 appearances across all competitions this season where he has only started three matches in that time.
