Arsenal duo sign new deals

Arsenal forward Theo Walcott has ended speculation over his future after putting pen to paper on a new four-year deal, reportedly earning him £140,000-a-week.

Walcott, 26, has been locked in contract negotiations for months and had been linked with a move away this summer, but has now committed his long-term future to the club after finding a successful conclusion.

Spain international Santi Carzola, 30, has also signed a new deal with the club and Wenger says he is delighted to tie both down for the future.

“We’re delighted to have extended the contracts of Santi and Theo. Both are top quality players who are hugely important and influential to our squad,” Wenger said in a statement released on Arsenal’s official website.

“As well as their huge contributions on the pitch, they both have a great deal of experience and are very popular off the pitch. We’re very pleased with them both signing contract extensions, as it provides our squad with further stability of quality.

Walcott is the longest-serving player currently at Arsenal, having been at the north London club since January 200, but missed the best part of the last two years because of injury.

Carzola, on the other hand, comes off the back of one of his best ever seasons for the Gunners. In fact, only Alexis Sanchez (7.81) gained a higher WhoScored rating for Arsenal in the Premier League than Carzola (7.67).
