Cristiano Ronaldo feels Real Madrid have gone back on their promise of a bumper new deal and now wants to join Manchester United at the end of the season, claims AS.
Madrid president Florentino Perez reportedly promised Ronaldo an improved contract after their Champions League final victory over Juventus in June 2017.
Ronaldo scored twice in a 4-1 win over the Old Lady but no new deal has been forthcoming and now the Portugal international wants to make a sensational return to Old Trafford.
Jose Mourinho’s side have been heavily linked with a move to re-sign Ronaldo in the past but will be weary of entertaining any speculation having been used as leverage of improved contracts in the past.
However, on this occasion there is a feeling that Ronaldo’s cycle at Madrid is coming to an end as Perez looks to revitalise the club’s offensive options and the Madrid chief has reportedly told Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, to listen to offers.
Ronaldo has endured a frustrating season for Madrid as Zinedine Zidane’s side languish closer to the bottom three (16 points) than league leaders Barcelona (19 points).
The 32-year-old has only scored four goals in 14 league appearances this season. In fact, of the 223 players who have managed to net as many as Ronaldo in Europe’s top five leagues this season, the Madrid No.7 has the worst conversion rate (4.3%).
