LA Galaxy president confirms Ibrahimovic wants to stay in Europe
Chris Klein, president of MLS franchise LA Galaxy has confirmed his interested in Zlatan Ibrahimovic but admitted that the striker would prefer to stay in Europe for now, Sky Sports reports.
The American outfit have been hot on the heels of the former Sweden international for some time but it appears as though a move for the injured hit man is off the cards for this summer.
The 35-year-old is technically a free agent after the cruciate knee ligament injury he sustained back in April saw United refrain from extending his contract at the club for the time being.
However, Jose Mourinho has not closed the door on the striker’s time at Old Trafford, despite the arrival of Romelu Lukaku from Everton.
That move certainly placed Ibrahimovic’s immediate future in doubt, and LA Galaxy were among the clubs keen to strike a deal with the veteran, though Klein admits that it is unlikely to happen in this transfer window.
"We have an incredible relationship with Zlatan and his agent," Klein said.
"He loves our club, and he loves LA. We have an interest in him. I think, for now, he wants to stay in Europe.”
Ibrahimovic certainly proved last season that he still has what it takes at the top level, starting 36 games for United across the league and Europa League, scoring 22 goals and registering 8 assists.
