Manchester City eye young English goalkeeper

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is keen to add more home-grown talent to his squad and is eyeing a summer move for rising Sunderland star Jordan Pickford, according to The Daily Mail.

Guardiola has already admitted he will address the state of his goalkeepers at the end of the season following Claudio Bravo’s abysmal first season at the club following a summer switch from Barcelona.

The Chile international has since lost his place in the team to Willy Caballero but neither are adjudged to be good enough to carry the team forward, with the likes of Benfica goalkeeper Ederson Morales also on City’s radar.

However, Guardiola is now understood to be tracking Sunderland’s No.1 goalkeeper, who has only just returned from a two-month spell on the sidelines with a knee injury picked up during the festive period.

Aside from Jermain Defoe, Pickford has arguably been the only bright spot for Sunderland this season as they bid to fight relegation once again. In fact, Pickford’s performances have been so impressive he has currently earned a spot in the WhoScored Team of the Season in the Premier League (7.09 rating).
