Tottenham prepare monster contract offer for Eriksen

Tottenham have not given up hope of securing Christian Eriksen’s long-term future and are willing to more than double his current wages, claims The Daily Mail.

Eriksen’s current £80,000-a-week contract has less than 12 months left to run and the Denmark international revealed earlier this summer he wants a new challenge.

The 27-year-old is holding out for a move to Spain but his chances are slim with the likes of Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid pursuing other targets this month.

Tottenham decided in the last week of the transfer window for English clubs they wanted to cash in on Eriksen but a move to Manchester United fell through.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side now face the prospect of losing Eriksen on a free transfer next summer and Serie A giants Juventus are understood to be monitoring his future.

Tottenham are now preparing a new contract offer for Eriksen and are willing to more than double his current salary by offering £200,000-a-week wages.

It remains to be seen whether Eriksen will encourage a contract offer from Tottenham, as his motives for wanting a new challenge are not simply financially-incentivised.

Eriksen was dropped for Tottenham’s first league game of the season but made a decisive impact off the bench in their 3-1 win over Aston Villa on Saturday.

Tottenham were losing 1-0 when Eriksen was called upon midway through the second half before running out 3-1 winners.

Since August 2016, Eriksen has registered more assists than any other player in the Premier League (37).
