Adriano a great buy, claims Shakhtar boss

Shakhtar Donetsk manager Mircea Lucescu believes AC Milan have "secured a great buy" in Luiz Adriano.

The Serie A giants completed an €8m deal for the 28-year-old last week and Lucescu feels the switch will allow the striker to establish himself on the international circuit.

"Serie A can help Luiz Adriano establish himself with his national team," Lucescu told Shakhtar’s official website.

"He’s a powerful player, who rarely picks up injuries. Although he’s not very tall, on aerial balls he moves though he’s two metres tall!

"He fights in the box, and always looks to score, he’s a true finisher. Milan have secured a great buy, I will already regret his departure.

"Of course, I understand that the Ukrainian League isn't at the level of the other leagues, and it’s normal that a player would aspire to play in one of the more competitive leagues."

The move has seen Adriano sacrifice Champions League football, a competition in which he thrived last season. Only Cristiano Ronaldo (10), Lionel Messi (10) and Neymar (10) scored more goals than the Brazil international (9) in Europe's elite competition last term.
