Leicester demand world record fee for Manchester City target Maguire

Manchester City face the prospect of making Harry Maguire the most expensive defender of all-time if they want to land the Leicester centre-back this summer, claims The Sun.

Maguire has emerged as a top transfer target for City, as Pep Guardiola looks to sign a replacement for captain Vincent Kompany, who will join Anderlecht when his contract expires this summer.

The 26-year-old has previously been linked with a move to Manchester United, but the Red Devils baulked at Leicester’s asking price 12 months ago, as the Foxes demanded similar money to what Liverpool paid for Virgil van Dijk.

After another impressive campaign, Leicester have now increased their valuation of Maguire further to fend off interest from City in their star defender.

City have already assembled the most expensive defence in history, having shelled out in excess of £50m on four different players, and it remains to be seen whether they are willing to make Maguire a club-record signing.

Of players that contested at least 30 aerial duels in the Premier League this season, Maguire had the best success rate (77.6%).
