AC Milan striker being tracked by major clubs, says agent

The agent of Carlos Bacca has revealed there are several major clubs interested in signing his client in the wake of AC Milan’s decision to break the bank to land Porto star Andre Silva.

Vincenzo Montella’s side made Silva the second most expensive player in the club’s history after completing a stunning €38m (£33.5m) deal to sign the 21-year-old on Monday and his arrival has raised question marks about Bacca’s future at the club.

The Serie A giants have been desperate to sign a star striker this summer having already been linked with Alvaro Morata and Diego Costa before eventually signing Silva from Porto and it would seem their desire to bring in another striker spells bad news for Bacca.

The 30-year-old has endured a turbulent time at Milan since joining from Sevilla in 2015 and his agent, Sergio Barila, has claimed Bacca has received offers from all over the world but he only wants to continue playing in one of Europe’s top leagues with one eye on the 2018 World Cup.

“At the moment we’re calm,” he told Foot Mercato, via Football Italia. “We’ve done nothing [with the Milan directors]. Carlos is at Milan. If the club feel they need a new striker… I’ll simply recall that he [Bacca] still has three years on his contract. There will be more competition, but we all know the summer will be long.

“The transfer market has just started and no-one knows what will happen in the coming weeks. Out of respect for Milan, I’ll repeat: he’s under contract. Several major European clubs have enquired about his situation though. From there… we’ll have to study everything calmly. The most important thing for a player, a year out from the World Cup, is to play.

“That’s all he’s interested in, he wants to play as many matches as possible. Right now all we know is that he’s at Milan. Paris Saint-Germain? These days Ligue 1 is one of the best European leagues, and Carlos wants to continue in Europe at a good level.

“He’s had offers from outside Europe, but he told me that those don’t interest him. He cares about the sporting side. There are non-European markets where big investments are being made, but that’s not the priority for the moment. France is one of the best leagues, along with Spain, England and Germany.”

In the last two Serie A campaigns only Gonzalo Higuain (60), Mauro Icardi (40), Andrea Belotti (38), Edin Dzeko (37) and Dries Mertens (33) have scored more goals than Bacca (31). Furthermore, that is at least 22 more goals than any other Milan player has scored in that time.
