Manchester United set to hand £200k per week to midfield man
Ander Herrera will sign a bumper new contract at Manchester United, keeping him Old Trafford for the next four years, according to the Daily Star on Sunday.
The 27-year-old was one of the strongest performers under Mourinho last season and has been tipped as a future captain of the club. The armband was recently handed to Michael Carrick following the departure of Wayne Rooney but the veteran is unlikely to be a regular next season, so the Spaniard is in line to skipper the side.
There’s no doubt that the club view him as an integral player now, having failed to truly convince Louis van Gaal of as much, and Herrera will sign a contract extension believed to be worth £200,000 per week to place him among United’s top earners.
The former Athletic Club midfielder started 27 of 31 league appearances last season, as well as nine en route to Europa League glory.
Only two players completed more tackles in that tournament last season (39), while no teammate registered more assists in the Premier League (6).
