Napoli poised to sign Eredivisie star in €50m deal

Napoli have agreed a deal in principle to sign PSV Eindhoven star Hirving Lozano in a deal worth €50m (£44.6m), claims Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Serie A giants are going to smash their club transfer record to sign Lozano, eclipsing the £34.5m they paid Real Madrid for Gonzalo Higuain in 2013.

Having already agreed personal terms over Lozano’s contract, the last obstacle to overcome before a deal can be made official is the 23-year-old’s image rights.

Napoli operate in an unusual fashion in that club president Aurelio Di Laurentiis likes all image rights to belong to the club and that stance has hampered them in the transfer market in the past.

A deal to sign Axel Witsel from Zenit has fallen through because of this and it could put their transfer of Lozano under threat due to his immense popularity in Mexico.

Lozano has several lucrative deals as a result of being one of Mexico’s most popular figures, leaving Napoli with the prospect of buying out his image rights or paying him a higher salary.

The PSV star is one of only four players to score or assist at least 50 goals in the last two Eredivisie campaigns.
