Manchester City ready world record bid for new goalkeeper
Manchester City are preparing a stunning world record bid for AC Milan teenage sensation Gianluigi Donnarumma, reports Sky Sports, via Football Italia.
Donnarumma, 18, has been heavily linked with a move away from Milan after making a breathtaking start to his senior playing career with almost every single European giant interested in his services.
City have made signing a new goalkeeper a priority this summer following Claudio Bravo’s dismissal debut campaign at the club and they are alleged to be plotting a stunning world record bid in the region of €120m - €150m (£103.6m - £129.5m) for the Milan teenager.
Despite Donnarumma’s strong bond with Milan, his future is still unclear and much will depend on whether the club’s takeover is complete before the end of the season.
The Italy international is tipped to replace Gianluigi Buffon as the country’s next long-term goalkeeper when the Juventus veteran finally opts to hang up his gloves, but for now, Donnarumma might have to make do with breaking Buffon’s record as the most expensive ever goalkeeper.
However, not only would Donnarumma shatter the £23m deal that saw Buffon join Juventus from Parma, but he would also become the most expensive player in football history, surpassing the £100m Manchester United paid Juventus for Paul Pogba last summer.
Donnarumma is currently the highest rated goalkeeper in Europe’s top five leagues (7.17).
