Liverpool star Salah picks up injury on international break

Mohamed Salah has given Liverpool an injury scare after picking up a muscle problem on international duty with Egypt.

The Liverpool forward sustained the injury at the end of Egypt’s 4-1 win over Swaziland in an African Nations Cup qualifier on Friday night.

Salah was scheduled to travel with the rest of his team-mates for the return leg on Tuesday but Egypt have now confirmed the 26-year-old has returned to England for more treatment.

“[Egypt manager] Javier Aguirre has decided to let Mohamed Salah return to his club and not participate in the Swaziland match on Tuesday to give him more rest,” a statement read from the Egyptian Football Association, via Sky Sports.

“During the previous match against Swaziland, Salah complained of stress in the musculoskeletal muscle. He was examined medically and radiation was performed on the area of complaint after the game.”

Salah enjoyed a remarkable debut campaign for Liverpool last season but has struggled to make the same impact for Jurgen Klopp’s side this time around.

The Liverpool No.11 dislocated his shoulder in last season’s Champions League final and still wears strapping, suggesting he is not completely over the injury.

Salah has scored three league goals in eight league matches this season, which is only one short of his tally at the same stage of the 2017/18 campaign.
