Chelsea agree €40m deal for Monaco midfielder

Chelsea have reached a €40m (£35.2m) deal with Monaco for Tiemoue Bakayoko and now need to agree personal terms, reports RMC.

The Premier League champions have been locked in transfer negotiations with Monaco since the end of last season but have now made a breakthrough and are on course to sign the France international.

Monaco have already been picked apart by Manchester City for Bernardo Silva this summer and Leonardo Jardim’s side are now set to lose another as the big clubs circle on their star players following their formidable campaign last season.

Antonio Conte’s side aren’t expecting any problems in agreeing personal terms with Bakayoko and his arrival could offset the departure of Nemanja Matic to Manchester United.

Bakayoko wasn’t necessarily Monaco’s best player last season but is perhaps the player most suited to Chelsea’s style of play under Conte and should make a seamless transition into their first-team.

Only Benjamin Andre (214) and Julien Feret (195) won possession in the midfield third more times than Bakayoko (165) in Ligue 1 last season.
