Markovic admits Rodgers issues

Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic has pinned his inability to settle at Anfield on former manager Brendan Rodgers.

Markovic, 21, joined Liverpool in 2014 but failed to make any real impact under Rodgers and was shunted around the park in various positions.

However, Rodgers was sacked after Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Everton nearly a fortnight ago and replaced by former Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp.

The Serbia international will, however, have to wait until the summer before being able to impress the new manager with Liverpool unable to recall Markovic from his season-long loan deal with Turkish outfit Fenerbahce.

“I didn’t have a good relationship with the coach [Rodgers],” Markovic told Portuguese newspaper A Bola.

“That was a problem. I played in many positions but didn’t play in mine.”

Markovic was restricted to just 11 starts in the Premier League last season, garnering a WhoScored rating of 6.67, which was the second lowest of Liverpool players to make double figures for starts in the league.
