Real Madrid boss Zidane earmarks Pogba alternative

Zinedine Zidane wants Real Madrid to sign Rennes sensation Eduardo Camavinga if they fail to prise Paul Pogba from Manchester United this summer, reports Spanish outlet AS.

Zidane is desperate to bolster his midfield options for next season with Luka Modric and Toni Kroos both the wrong side of 30.

Added to the fact James Rodriguez and Isco both face uncertain futures at Madrid, new faces in midfield are urgently required at the club.

Pogba has been heavily linked with a move to Madrid in the past but president Florentino Perez has so far refused to match United's demands.

The France international was valued at £150M last summer but his valuation has slashed over the last 12 months due to a lack of playing time and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Reports have emerged in the last week suggesting Pogba would prefer to join Madrid this summer rather than return to former club Juventus.

However, Madrid are not expecting straightforward negotiations with their Premier League counterparts and Zidane has already looked at alternative targets.

While Pogba remains his first-choice target, the Madrid head coach would sanction a move for Camavinga if a deal cannot be struck with United.

Camavinga has quickly emerged as one of the best midfield prospects in Europe's top five leagues this season for French side Rennes.

The 17-year-old is already a first-team regular for Rennes with 24 league starts to his name in 2019/20.

Impressively, no player in Europe's top five leagues averages more tackles per game than the teenager (4.2).
