Manchester United earmark De Gea replacements

Manchester United have earmarked Everton goalkeeper Jordon Pickford and Atletico Madrid star Jan Oblak as potential replacements for David de Gea, claims The Daily Mirror.

De Gea will only have 12 months left to run on his existing United deal at the end of the season and wants to be made one of the best paid players in the club’s history to renew.

United are not willing to offer De Gea more than £350,000-a-week, which would make him the best-paid goalkeeper in the world, and now run the risk of losing their star man for nothing in 2020.

Solskjaer’s side have no intention of selling De Gea this summer if they do not agree a new deal even though it represents the last chance they will be able to command a sizeable fee.

United are prepared for contract talks to drag into next season but have listed Oblak and Pickford as potential replacements in the future.

Pickford has divided opinion since making a £30m move to Everton from boyhood club Sunderland in the summer of 2017, while Oblak is considered a rival of De Gea as the best goalkeeper in the world.

Since the beginning of last season, only Asmir Begovic (10) has committed more errors leading to an opposition goal in the Premier League than Pickford (six).

Oblak, meanwhile, has kept a clean sheet in more than 50% of his league matches in the same period (54 clean sheets in 98 league appearances).
