AC Milan are on the verge of completing a €20m (£17.4m) deal to sign Wolfsburg defender Ricardo Rodriguez, reports Kicker, via Get German Football.
The Serie A giants are targeting a hugely ambitious summer after being taken over by Chinese investors earlier in the season with the likes of Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata and Atalanta midfielder Franck Kessie thought to be genuine targets for Milan.
However, Rodriguez is expected to be the first name through the door with just an official announcement left to be made on a deal that will see Vincenzo Montella’s side pay €15m (£13.1m) plus €5m (£4.4m) in bonuses.
“The negotiations are continuing, it’s just that Wolfsburg were tied up in in the relegation play-offs,” agent and intermediary Fabio Parisi told Radio 24 on Tuesday.
“The basic details are sorted out, we go forward and there’s a very good chance it’ll go through. Everyone wants to finish the move, the player wants to join Milan and Milan want to sign him.
“We just had to wait for the Wolfsburg result. I really think the move will be completed.”
Rodriguez has spent the last six years at Wolfsburg and has previously been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal after establishing himself as one of the best left-backs in Germany during that time.
However, it’s been a dismal campaign for the Bundesliga giants that almost culminated in relegation and now Rodriguez will secure a long-anticipated move away from the club.
In the last five Bundesliga campaigns only Johannes Geis (223) has completed more accurate crosses than Rodriguez (207), who has built a reputation from being deadly from set-pieces.
