Burke set for England return with Crystal Palace readying bid

Oliver Burke’s stay in the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig is tipped to be short-lived, with Crystal Palace keen on the Scotland international, The Guardian reports.

Having recently appointed former striker Dougie Freedman as sporting director, the Eagles are tipped to swoop for the winger, with whom Freedman worked during his time at Nottingham Forest.

The 20-year-old made an eye-catching £13m move to Germany this time last summer, but while his new club excelled on the field they did so without the youngster’s input for much of the campaign.

Burke, who was left out of Leipzig’s opening day defeat at Schalke at the weekend, started just 5 of 25 Bundesliga appearances last season, scoring once and registering two assists in 617 minutes of action.

Nevertheless, the German outfit are keen to make their money back and are even asking for a small profit on their investment, with Palace believed to be weighing up a bid in the region of £15m.

The youngster, who made a scintillating start to the Championship season at Forest last year, scoring 4 goals in five appearances, is still regarded as Scotland’s brightest prospect and would certainly swell Frank De Boer’s relatively limited attacking ranks.
