Chelsea line up Courtois replacement

Chelsea have earmarked AC Milan starlet Gianluigi Donnarumma as a potential replacement for Thibaut Courtois if they fail to prize off interest from Real Madrid in the summer, according to The Daily Mail.

Courtois’ future at Stamford Bridge has been thrown into doubt after he failed to commit his future to the reigning Premier League champions during the international break.

Real Madrid have reportedly expressed an interest in the Belgium international and Chelsea are seemingly putting in plans in case they cannot keep hold of the 23-year-old, with Donnarumma chief among their targets to replace the shot-stopper.

Donnarumma, 17, has made a dazzling start to his career for AC Milan this season between the sticks and is already being touted for big things for both club and country.

With Antonio Conte’s appointment as Chelsea boss thought to be imminent he could look to bring his fellow countryman to west London, with a €38m (£29.9m) fee accompanying the report.

The Italy Under-21 international broke a 36-year-old Serie A record when he started against Sassuolo in October to become the youngest shot-stopper in the league’s history (16 years, eight months, six days).
