Which teen sensation makes the Ligue 1 team of the week?
This season has already seen AC Milan unearth a 16-year-old gem in Gianluigi Donnarumma and Toulouse appear to have followed suit by blooding Alban Lafont, who secured his place in the Ligue 1 team of the week for the second round in a row.
Toulouse were five points from safety prior to Lafont’s first-team debut at the end of November and without a clean in the league since April. However, Lafont, who became Ligue 1’s youngest-ever goalkeeper against Nice, has now kept back-to-back clean sheets as Toulouse have moved to within two points of safety.
Lafont, 16, has been in sparkling form in both matches, but saved his best performance for their 3-0 win away to Troyes were his WhoScored rating of 8.78 was enough to rank him inside the top 10 best goalkeeping displays across Europe’s top five leagues this season.
The scoreline may suggest Toulouse dominance, but it was anything but and the under-17 international had to be at his best to thwart Troyes’ front line, who had 18 shots on goal to match their 64.4% possession. In fact, only Lorient goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte (8) has made more saves in a Ligue 1 game this season than Lafont (7).
