Aston Villa rival Sheffield United for Ramsdale

Aston Villa have trying to hi-jack Sheffield United's deal for Bournemouth goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, claims talkSPORT.

Sheffield United had an £18.5m bid for Ramsdale accepted at the end of last week and re-signing the Bournemouth shot-stopper appeared a formality for Chris Wilder's side.

The Blades have moved for former goalkeeper Ramsdale after giving up hope of re-signing Dean Henderson from Manchester United.

Henderson is poised to sign a bumper new deal with United and Wilder's side will not be able to afford his new wages.

Sheffield United are currently discussing personal terms with Ramsdale but it has now emerged Villa have entered the picture for the 22-year-old.

Dean Smith is depserate to resolve Villa's problems in goal after using four goalkeepers over the course of the 2019/20 Premier League campaign.

Pepe Reina has returned to AC Milan following his loan spell at the club and Tom Heaton is only just returning from a long-term cruciate ligament injury.

Ramsdale was one of few positives for Bournemouth last season and the Cherries have reluctantly accepted his departure is on the cards.

The England Under-21 international only missed one Premier League game for Bournemouth last term and had a 67.5% save success rate.

In fact, only two goalkeepers made more saves than Ramsdale (125) in the Premier League in 2019/20.

Moreover, Ramsdale made more saves than Villa's four goalkeepers (116) combined last season.
