Chelsea snap up Malang Sarr on free transfer

Chelsea have announced the arrival of former Nice defender Malang Sarr on a five-year deal running until the summer of 2025.

Sarr is Chelsea's fourth new arrival of the summer after joining Chelsea on a free transfer following his release from Nice at the end of last season.

In addition to Sarr's arrival, Chelsea have bolstered their backline with the signing of Ben Chilwell from Leicester in a £50m deal and will soon confirm the free signing of ex-Paris Saint-Germain skipper Thiago Silva.

Unlike the aforementioned duo, however, Sarr will be loaned out in order to get regular playing time for the 2020/21 season.

Sarr has been highly thought of since making his Nice debut at the age of 17 in 2016/17. Sarr scored the winning goal against Rennes - becoming the second youngest player to ever score on debut in Ligue 1.

Since then, the France Under-21 international has impressively racked up 102 top-flight league appearances by the age of 21.

Of outfielders currently aged 21 and under, only Kai Havertz (118), Kylian Mbappe (106) and Kai Havertz (106) have made more appearances in that period than Sarr, two of which are new Chelsea team-mates of his.

Moreover, of players currently aged 21 and under with at least 50 appearances in that time, only one has a better pass success rate than Sarr (89.8%).
