Inter would appear to have beaten Leicester City to the signature of Sampdoria striker Eder after vice-president Javier Zanetti confirmed a deal is close to being completed.
Roberto Mancini’s side will reportedly take Eder on loan until the end of the season with an option to make the deal permanent for £9.2m in the summer.
Inter looked set to miss out on their long-term transfer target following late interest from Premier League leaders Leicester, but they now look set to win the race to land the 29-year-old.
“There will be news soon Eder and [Andrea] Ranocchia. We are negiotating, we are at an advanced stage, but nothing is official yet,” Zanetti is quoted as saying by Football Italia.
Mancini also confirmed the news in as many words after Inter's Coppa Italia defeat to Juventus: “Eder can bring benefits because he is a different striker to the others we have in the squad. So far he has scored 12 goals. He can bring another dimension and different characteristics.”
In fact, only Gonzalo Higuain (21) has scored more goals in Serie A this season than the Sampdoria frontman (12).
