Chelsea will rekindle their interest in AC Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli and bid £49m in January, according to The Sun.
Antonio Conte’s side failed to sign the Italy international in the summer after having a £35m bid turned down by Milan but Roman Abramovich is ready to bankroll a squad revamp in January following their underwhelming start to the season.
Chelsea had initially refused to go as high as Milan’s £49m valuation but they have reportedly changed their stance and are now willing to press ahead with a move that would make the defender the second most expensive player in the club’s history.
Of players aged 21 and under only four players have completed more interceptions than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues than Romagnoli since the start of last season (95).
