Manchester United defender out for the season

Manchester United have been dealt another blow with news Marcos Rojo will miss the rest of the campaign and the start of next season after suffering a ruptured cruciate ligament in his left knee, reports ESPN.

Rojo was stretchered off in the first half of United’s 2-1 win over Anderlecht in the Europa League on Thursday night after being left in leap in a tackle before Zlatan Ibrahimovic also suffered a serious knee injury that will keep him sidelined until 2018.

The Argentina international underwent scans on his left knee on Friday before his worst fears were confirmed to leave United extremely short at the back for the remainder of the season. Mourinho has called on Phil Jones and Chris Smalling to play through the pain in a bid to keep United’s season on track but neither are due back until mid-May.

It just shows how far Rojo has come on under Mourinho this season that news of his injury is a huge blow to United having previously been a laughing stock at Old Trafford prior to this campaign.

Rojo’s introduction to the team in October has helped spark a hugely successful period that has seen United go 22 games unbeaten in the league, win the EFL Cup and reach the semi-finals of the Europa League.

It is therefore no surprise that when Rojo has started for United this season they are unbeaten in the Premier League.
