Real Madrid have intensified their pursuit of Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga with talks with the French outfit, clams RMC Sport.
Camavinga has been a revelation for Rennes in his breakthrough season and is now one of the first names on the teamsheet at the age of just 17.
Madrid are long-term admirers of Camavinga and their interest traces way back before he even made his senior debut for Rennes at the age of 16 in December 2018.
It was thought Camavinga would stay another season at Rennes after the French side secured Champions League football for next season.
However, Madrid still indeed to force through a move for the France Under-21 international and are reportedly even willing to pay as much as €70m (£62.7m).
Zinedine Zidane was reportedly hopeful of landing both Camavinga and Manchester United's Paul Pogba this summer but accepts it is no longer possible to sign the latter.
With transfer valuations set to tumble as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, Pogba leaving United is no longer an option on the table.
Nevertheless, that Madrid are still willing to pay so much for Camavinga emphasises how desperate the Spanish giants are to win the race for his signature.
Remarkably, only Leicester's Ricardo Pereira (4.3) averages more tackles per game than Camavinga (4.2) in Europe's top five leagues this season.
